Draft Day

I have been accused of being lazy when it comes to the blog. So be it.

Today is the NFL Draft, or, as I like to refer to it, the Most Overrated Day in Sports History. Brandon is over talking about a project we are going to be starting int the near future. Tina left for a jewelry party and ditched Justin with us, so below is a picture of Justin wondering how the Bears could pick a cornerback when there are still good offensive linemen and quarterbacks left on the board.

One round left and it looks like all three of us here will be free agents again. I suppose its good because it means Justin is still eligible to play pee-wee and high school. As for Brandon and I, we will need to find other ways to become multi-millionaires.

Not much else going on. The job hunt continues. My summer break starts in two weeks. I am not looking forward to it.

More later.

Back to Work

Well, it's been awhile since our last post and so much has happened! The biggest thing is that I went back to work on March 24th. I really really wish money grew on trees. It was horrible to leave Justin, but great to see all my co-workers whom I missed when I was home for 9 weeks. The first week, Bill was at home with the little guy since he was on his spring break. Then, it was back to work for Bill too. Justin now attends a home daycare (state certified) in Elgin run by a loving Christian couple who watch only 5 other kids. That makes it a little easier to leave him each day, knowing how they treat him and how much they enjoy having him. But, I can't help being extremely jealous that they get to spend all day with my child, and I just get a few short hours before going to sleep at night! Plus, since I want to spend all my time with him when I get home, things like cleaning, laundry, and cooking take a back seat. Hopefully we'll get into a better routine. Bill is teaching until the middle of May, and will then be home with Justin until he starts the school year in August. It really makes me happy knowing that they will have those special couple months together. Then, when Bill starts teaching, I will work part-time. I CAN'T WAIT!!! I don't want summer to fly by or anything, but I am SO looking forward to more time with my son.

Hmm...what else has happened? Oh, Justin grew out of his size 1 diapers and all his 0-3 month clothes. I'm guessing he's about 13 lbs or more now, since at his 2 month appointment (the first shots=horrible) he was 11 lbs. 8 oz. He's been eating like crazy, so it looks like another growth spurt is coming. We're really enjoying his cooing conversations with us, all the smiles, and the laugh he's working on. I also think he started teething, since he's always drooling, shoving his fist in his mouth, and looks uncomfortable. I'm still breastfeeding, so I'm not really looking forward to the arrival of teeth!

Speaking of breastfeeding, I am so amazed and how God designed our bodies! I've been reading a lot about it and found out that I create exactly the type of milk Justin needs when he needs it. Also, breastfeeding burns 500 or more calories a day and has gotten me back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Yay!

One last major thing that has happened was that Justin was baptized on April 6th. It was WONDERFUL having so many of our loved ones attend the special service! I'll try to include some pictures in the next post when I get them from my mom. Justin's godparents are Jeff and Corey Spella and we are so honored to have them serve in such a special role in Justin's life.

That's all for now! Sorry so long...I had to make up for not blogging the past couple weeks. Enjoy some of the latest pics!

Smith/Osmun Playdate

On Tuesday, Heather, Mrs. Gaasrud (Heather's mom), Nora (Heather's daughter born Feb. 10th), my mom, Justin, and I went to Corner Bakery for lunch. Heather and I's backyards touched growing up and have been friends since 4th grade. It's so fun that we now have babies just 3 weeks apart! Here's a photo of the moms and babies.

Then, yesterday I got a special treat for my birthday from Justin. Just look at this great smile! He was such a great baby all day...lots of smiles when awake and lots of napping. His "I Crawl the Line" Johnny Cash shirt is compliments of Aunt Ashley.

St. Patrick's Day,,,

Just thought I'd throw a picture up here of the Osmun men in their festive green...

Josh and Whitney came up two weekends back and brought their boys Ben and Henry, so here is a picture of me with my two future stud football players. These boys are going to be monsters. Ben is not yet one and Henry just turned two. So at this rate they'll both be seven feet tall and weigh 300 lbs. (Ben on the left, Henry on the right)

Finally, here is one last one of Justin. Just lounging, probably watching some college basketball in his wiener dog shirt.

Okay, I lied. Here is another one of Justin and me, just being big-eyed boys.

Thats all for now.

Zippers and Laces

Well, it's been awhile since the last post and Justin is currently sleeping on my lap...so it's a good opportunity to catch up.

About a week and a half ago I achieved a key post-partum milestone...I could zipper my pants!!! Granted I can only fit in 2 pairs of pre-pregnancy pants, but it is still very exciting. I also put on sneakers for the first time in months and was amazed at how easily I could bend over to tie my shoes. Yes, I'm definitely finding joy in the little things.

Speaking of little things, my mom caught me talking to Justin in my "baby voice" the other day. This is significant because before he was born I had no desire to hold babies (I thought I would anger the moms for not knowing how to hold them right) or talk baby talk. I just knew I wanted a child of my own and left it to God for my maternal instincts to kick in. I even told my mom I felt silly talking to this baby in my stomach and would sometimes talk to him in my brain like I was talking to God. Then I would realize that he could actually hear me in utero, so I should talk out loud. It just felt so awkward, like I was talking out loud to myself, which made me feel like I was going crazy or something. Now it just seems so natural carrying him and talking about what I'm doing and what's going on around him, even though I know he doesn't understand yet. I guess you're supposed to talk a lot to help them begin to develop a vocabulary. I asked for a book and tape on baby sign language for my birthday so we can better learn what he wants before he can talk back. We'll let you know how that goes!

I mentioned how babies can hear their moms talking in utero. I also realize now how much from the environment he could hear! When I was pregnant with Justin I listened to a lot of jazz music and Jimmy Eat World. When he's fussy, if Bill plays either of these things it really helps to calm him down! Pretty Amazing.

Okay, this is totally off topic, but applies to what Bill wrote in his last post. We've been reflecting on life and death a lot in the past couple weeks especially since we are in the season of Lent. One of the nuns I've become acquainted with at church through a class I'm taking said something very profound just before Justin was born to me that I wanted to share with you all. I've always been uncomfortable with the idea of death, even though I know God has so much in store for us in heaven. But, she told me to think of what it's like for a baby in the womb. They are warm, comfortable, and have all their needs met. Why would they want to leave? Meanwhile, there are people on the other side of the womb, like family and friends, that just can't wait to meet the child, celebrate their birth, and love them. Although they are already alive, not until they are born can they really start living and see their future and purpose. Death is a lot like that. We are content and comfortable in this world and want to stay where we're at. Meanwhile, there are saints who have gone before us and God/Jesus waiting lovingly for us on the other side. Not until we die can they celebrate us joining them in heaven and begin our new after-life that will be even more than we can ever imagine. Of course this doesn't mean we need to rush things! Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed. We just don't need to fear passing into the next life since we have the hope of Christ.
